Michael stars in the new online musical ACZone: The Musical. The musical is a marketing campaign for an acne medication of the same name.  You can read more about the medication here and get a free sample from the website. (Maybe I’ll give it a shot - 25 years old and still have breakouts from time to time but nothing ever works. Any advice?) The musical itself seems to play on the High School Musical fad and would be funny if it actually broke some of the stereotypes it makes fun of. From the press-release:

Given his extensive resume and his track record, I think Welch is about to explode. He’s been around since the age of 10, when he co-starred in Star Trek: Insurrection, a role I’m completely embarrassed to say I didn’t even realize was him until last week (duh!). But this year’s #1 male rising star has everything going for him and should break wide open in the next year or so. Best known for his role as funny and friendly high school jock Mike Newton in The Twilight Saga, Michael is also around in a number of indie films, including the much troubled and yet to be seen film All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, the LA Film Festival hit Remember The Daze, Sundance favorite An American Crime, SXSW monster hit My Suicide, and in two ohter forthcoming films, Lost Dream and Unrequited.   He’s not only one of the best young actors around, he’s also one of the busiest…

I worked with Michael Welch last night on his new film, ‘Unrequited’. I just have to say that he is a real pro. Even the tech guys were saying how easy it is working with him. There is just no bad film. He is such a Cool guy! Easy to see why he was named #1 Rising Star of 2009. He is very personable, and down to earth.

Welch stopped by the MTV studios to discuss such far-ranging topics as his concern for Robert Pattinson’s safety and the “three-way date,” a scene that has Bella, Mike and Jacob at a movie theater, watching a horror film. But, in the grand tradition of such films as “The Player,” “Bowfinger” and “The Purple Rose of Cairo,” director Weitz is inserting his own mini “movie within a movie” into the mix.

“The film is called ‘Face Punch,’ ” revealed Welch, telling us about the tongue-in-cheek movie that Bella, Mike and Taylor will be seen watching on the big screen. “It’s an action film.”
